Update 15

I am fairly happy with the amendments I have made and I feel that I have followed the feedback I had gained. I had carried out the following amendments:
- Font change
- Colour Change
- Added voice-over
I feel that my products are fairly professional but could have been improved, especially the trailer. I feel that perhaps the trailer could have been improved through the dialogue because in parts it was fairly unclear and there was some noise throughout the filming. However, overall I am happy with the progress I had made.

Rough Cut 3 of Trailer, Feedback

I did not get any feedback at this stage that I had found useful as they were fairly brief comments saying that it was good, with no opinion on how to improve this. However, there was one comment saying that the clicking noise was not as noticeable so I think this was an improvement.
I am however disappointed that I did not get any feedback at this stage as I felt it would be more useful in the amendment stage of my products, moreover I did ask a few of my family and friends what they had thought about my trailer and they gave me some feedback in which I could improve. The main one being that I still needed a voice-over, and I could improve it by using fonts I have used in my print products.

Update 13

I feel that out of my logo designs I have picked the ones in which I could replicate and I feel that these could be seen as professional logos. However, I do feel I could have animated them a bit so there was some movement but I found this difficult to do so therefore I took the safe route and did not add any animation onto these. I feel that with the use of logos it will make my trailer appear more professional and although there is a lot of room for improvement in my logos, I am happy with how these have turned out. If I was to redo this stage I would create a few more logos, maybe some with animations on.

Editing Process - Logos

At this stage I had not had the software in which I had used to edit all of my clips together, so I used Windows Live Movie Maker to make a short video of my logos and saved it as a .mov file to then transfer into my trailer. Below shows the process:


Firstly, I select the images in which I want to put in the video and change the amount of seconds in which I want each image to be on screen for. In my case, I had used only three logos in my trailer so I added these on for 4 seconds each and used the fade out transititions so that it was more professional. I could then view the video of my logos and as soon as it was satisfactory I would save it to USB drive to put into my trailer.


This shows the saving process of the short video of my logos. I had to click 'Save movie' in the menu in order to save it to a portable device. The reason behind this being that if I did not transfer it via memory stick, the file would be too big to email and I would not be able to put my logos into the trailer.

Making Logos


I had to firstly place the image in which I had found on google on the page by going to the file button, then place. I then had to select the image and fit it in the center of the page.

At this stage I wanted to use the image but not the text underneath so I went to the eraser tool and got rid of the text so that all it left was the image itself.


I then went on to the text tool and added text in which I thought was suited to the genre and I chose 'straight from the heart' productions. I then thought that I had to change the colour so I selected the 'productions' part of the text and changed this so that it was in red- the same colour red that the image used. This is how I completed the creation of my logos.

Update 12


Update 12

I have done two posters and a magazine cover and at this stage I think that I had followed all the conventions I had found that people expected from the primary research I had done. I followed my flat plans throughout this stage and I feel that the making of my print products had gone quite well. I am going to request feedback on facebook to see what people had thought of them. I am expecting to find that the general audience would think that the font size, style and colour need changing because they don’t stand out as much as I wanted myself. I am then planning on making amendments based around the feedback I have found but I am fairly satisfied with how the making of my prints turned out.

Making Poster

The first stage of making the poster was to place the image on photoshop to see whether it would fit on the page. This is quite a simple stage as all was needed was to find the image because no edits were needed for this poster.


I then went on to add all of the text that I needed using the text box symbol on the left hand side of photoshop. This was fairly simple because then all I had to do was change the font to 'roadway' and the poster was then complete. At this stage I wasn't sure the colours were well fitted but I will discover this from my feedback.

Poster 2:

Once again I had to place the image on photoshop to see whether it would fit on the page. This is quite a simple stage as all was needed was to find the image because a few edits were needed for this poster.

Secondly, I went to the right hand side of photoshop and found a tool that changed the colour to black and white so I added this on the image to show more of a dramatic effect. I think this worked well but it can be seen that the image would not fit on the page without becoming pixelated so this was a struggle that was to be faced later.

I then added the credits by using the text tool on the left hand side once again, being a simple task all I had to do was change the font as I knew what font I was using but I was unsure on the colours at this stage.


Finally I added strokes to the title because it allows it to stand off the page and I did this by double clicking on the text layer on the right hand side of the page and going to stroke, which then allowed me to change the thickness and colour of the stroke.

Making Magazine


At this stage I thought doing the background first was a good idea so I selected the gradient tool from the left hand side toolbar and then went to the top of the page and selected the colours in which I wanted to use. At this stage I wanted it to look as though light was shining from behind the characters to suggest romance. I then added all the text in which I needed on the page.


I then went on to change the colour of each part of the font so that it fit well with the background and stand out off the image. This was quite a simple stage as then all I would need to do is change the font of the masthead at a later stage once finding out about audience feedback.


These two stages show that I went to the top of the page and added a star shaped banner in which I thought would go with the image and the font. The reason in which I used a banner was because it was on the magazines I had looked at that represent a similar genre. I then went on to change the colour of the banner to red using a colour overlay but I then later added a stroke so that it stood out more.

I then placed the image on the page to see how everything would look at this stage and I was fairly happy that nothing needed editing as the text all fit well and stood out off the image like I had intended.

Update 11


Update 11

I have taken the images in the style in which I had drawn them on my flat plans and I had then narrowed them down based on the conclusions shown on my contact sheets. I feel that the images in general went quite well- actually even better than expected. The reason I think they went better than I expected was due to the fact that I have got locations in the actual images, which then means that it shows links to the trailer and adds a realism view as well as a large sight of continuity. I am fairly happy with the images in which I had gathered and I feel they will go well on my products and stand out well.

This is the only image in which I had edited for my products and the reason being that I wanted to add the black and white effect to it. This was a fairly simple step because all that I had done was go to the box on the right hand side and click on the symbol that says 'Black and White' then this part of editing was complete.

Update 10

After rough cut two I have found that people thought the soundtrack worked well with the trailer itself. From rough cut one I had done a lot to improve into rough cut two and this included adding a wider range of transitions and more of the revelation of the narrative. However, the trailer is not yet complete as a voice-over is still needed to be put on and this should only take five minutes. However, at this stage I feel the following could be improved:
- Fitted Soundtrack
- Green Screen
- Amount of shots
- Dialogue
- Removal of the clicking noise

Rough Cut 2 of Trailer, Feedback


I didnt get that much feedback at this stage but I thought it was still fairly useful.
I have found:
- Suited soundtrack
- Need logos and green screen (next stage)

Editing Process - Sound

I did this part of editing in VideoPad at home because it was easier to do and it could be transferred into final cut if needed. I had done this by saving the track in which I wanted to use and the rest of the process is shown below:

At this stage all I had to do was go to the toolbar at the top left hand side of the page and click the 'add media' button and this then came up with all the sounds or videos in which I could add. At this stage all I needed to add was the soundtrack as the rest of the trailer was already complete. I then selected the soundtrack in which I had wanted to use and this was then visible in the available documents on the left hand side column.


All I then had to do was drag this down into the 'soundtack 1' column and then change the volume to 50% so that it did not overpower the voice-over or the dialogue itself. This was a pretty simple step because it fit exactly with my trailer and it seemed fairly professional. However, I then had to split this using the 'split' button on the left hand side to cut the soundtrack short as it was a bit too long.

I have decided instead of using Paige singing covers of Faber Drive songs I am going to use covers off YouTube from people I know. However, in order to do this I have to request the permission of those in which are singing the tracks, and I will ask them to send me the MP3 of the song. I have found the two covers in which I want to use and have requested the permission from the users themselves. Only one of the covers are going to be used as I have gained full permission for it, however I do tend to edit them so that they fit in my trailer and I think this will be easy as it is of similar speeds to fit previous texts of the same genre.

I think that the feedback I had got from rough cut one of my trailer was fairly positive but it is clear that there is some improvements that are needed. Baring in mind that I do not have the sound in this trailer yet, nor the logos it will not look professional because these are needed to work in unison and show professionality. I was quite pleased with how rough cut one had turned out and more pleased with the feedback but I have found that the camera I had used clicks through the end of each scene and this could be difficult to remove from the trailer so I am planning on editing this before rough cut two of my trailer.

Rough Cut 1 of Trailer, Feedback

This shows my feedback in which I had gotten for my trailer rough cut, without sound. I intend on taking opinions at every stage so I know how to improve in order to make the best quality products possible. I have found that people had enjoyed my trailer, yet they did not go onto expand on why they had enjoyed it. However, I feel that more people will give feedback if the sound was to be added, and the clicking of the camera was to be removed.

Progression - Video Update

I created this video in order to discuss how far I have got with the process in terms of filming, editing and capturing. I have then gone onto discuss what I need to do in order to get completed by the deadline. However, I am getting feedback along the way of process so this helps save time and shows clear organisation amongst the cast with help from the actors and what they think about how to make their characters more realistic. I have been told that they should play themselves in order to play the part right and this is why I had decided to just use the music from Paige, and not actually show her singing within the film as it is outside of her comfort zone, and I think this was the best decision and it has made my products more realistic and genre orientated.
 

Editing Process


Firstly, I go on the top toolbar and select the 'add media button'. This is a fairly simple stage as all the material I need is all together in one folder so I then select them all, for them all to appear in a list in the left hand side column. From this it is easy to edit. I then drag all the clips I need into the 'Video Track' column and this shows all I need in a row. I then go on to edit these in the next stage.


At this stage I am using the left hand side column once again to use the tool 'split' in which cuts all of the part of the clips that I don't need and automatically deletes these. This took about 15 minutes to complete the video section of the editing process and it was fairly simple to make these clips blend together using the next stage.


 I then use the tool about the split key which says 'transition' and at the end of each clip I have used transititions such as fade and cross cut. From this the trailer was then almost complete and all I needed to do was add the soundtrack, intertitles and the voice-over which would be quite simple to do. I decided that the next stage I would do was to add the intertitles and the process is shown below:


Stage one two add intertitles is to go to the top of the page and click 'insert blank' this then adds a black screen and allows you to say how long the screen is to be on for and what you want to put on this screen. Next, you have to click on the row above the video track which is called 'the overlay' so that you can insert the text that you need to put on the intertitles, it then allows you to change the font and colour of it if necessary.


This stage shows the text being inserted and now all I have to do is change the font to white and to the 'roadway' style and then repeat this full process as many times as needed in order to make the trailer professional.

To add the soundtrack it is fairly simple. The process is shown below:


Due to all the media already being added this stage only takes one step. To place the soundtrack into the trailer all that was needed is to drag the soundtrack down from the media list onto the soundtrack 1 section of the software. This then edits it itself and fits to the trailer automatically so know edits are needed at this stage.

The soundtrack being added is fairly straight-forward and it is done by clicking the narrative button on the top of the page and it then simply records it and place itself on the soundtrack 2 section automatically and then it can just be dragged to whereever it is meant to be. The process is shown below:


This shows the voiceover being recorded and by clicking ok it then automatically adds itself into the trailer so that it can be dragged into where it is needed to go.

The trailer from here is now complete.
