Final Post - Resit

Moderator:

From my previous attempt at A2 coursework I had found that I needed to add a lot to get it up to a decent level. In my previous coursework I did not do a trailer so I have made sure I have done this, and I have then created two posters and a film magazine cover.

I also added the following:
- More research into different texts
- Continuous feedback
- Updates
- Suited Amendments

I however did change quite a lot from my previous coursework also. I changed the genre from romantic comedy to romantic drama, which meant the plot and type of characters would have to change as well and this is seen from the process. The following products I had done did not have location shots whereas the one I have done now does.

I also changed the following
- Costume and Props
- Locations
- Lighting
- Sounds

I think I did use a lot of the conventions that are typical in Romantic Dramas, for example the three colour palettes and the image represented the genre the will they wont they scenario instead of a boring pose in which will give away this idea straight away. Like other posters I used tag lines on one of these to add more context and some mystery behind it, which represented the posibilities. I have also shown the title and credits/release date in a similar way but I didn't do this for a specific reason, except basing it around all audience research I had looked at displayed it in this sort of way. However, for my magazine I didn't use a date or barcode but I wanted it to be specific and unique from others of the same kind but I did then stick with the sell lines and the typical banner to make it look professional and fuller on the page to draw attention of the audience, yet I didnt use straplines, because I wanted it to be like entertainment so it is straight to the point, giving it away everything you want it to give away. I used the image as the central focus on both print products as this is mainly what people look at so I place it in the center of the page each time. I changed and adapted my products to make them unique but I used 'Reel Film' title but I didn't want this layout as that is more full and action packed, whereas not romance. The trailer challenged conventions of romantic dramas whereas the print products did not really do this, but they show continuity. The main reason I made them unique, yet somewhat similar is due to findings from my audience research that people did not want just another similar romantic drama, it needed to be unique yet I wanted to follow some conventions as this is proved as successful.

Overall Evaluation

When I had started thinking about my promotional package I had thought of the title ‘When Two Worlds Collide’ because this allowed me to show that anything is possible, and fate beats all. When I came up with this it immediately led to the thought that any two people can fall in love so I was going to show this, using two people who are for totally different groups for instance an upper class girl and a skater boy. I then came up with the saying ‘all is fair in love and war’ so that it had all interlinked together, for instance the war linking with the collision but also a double meaning for two people intertwining.

I had an idea of what I wanted my print products to look like and I had changed my original idea for my poster slightly, and it in a way both fits the romantic drama genre but also in a way challenges this. I had looked at some common poses and decided from this to use the back to back pose but put a twist on it, having them holding hands secretly. For my poster the only thing in which had changed throughout my development was the pose and this was because the storyline had changed from her being a an ordinary upper class girl, my storyline changed from something like Cinderella to the According to Greta, because it meant that the girl was the rebellious one for once, rather than the male. This worked as a benefit however as it got more attention and better feedback. However, my magazine development had taken a bit longer as there was less feedback to work with and the actors were busy, and the poses looked to forces. So I then decided to choose someone who could work well together and be more relaxed with. For my magazine, I had originally planned at putting a film strip along the bottom of the page but I had then decided not to do this as it would look too busy and draw attention away from the image itself, and this worked as a benefit as there was no room when the film strip was on the page and it looks professional without.

I had researched into professional romantic comedies mainly to see what kind of texts they use and I discovered that they use mainly bright, bold, girlish and curly texts. Whereas in my audience research I found people like this feature but they want it to be more unique so instead of using curly texts I used bold so it appeals to both genders and used three colours, and these were grey, blue and pink to show that they are for both genders and is not over powerful to girls and shows grey as neutral with the others being the stereotypical boy girl colours. I had noticed that the colours for fonts, etc on print products advertising a film are also often shown in the clothing so I was planning on doing this to show a larger scale of continuity.

I decided not to use a specific release date on my products and decided to just show a month, but at first I was going to use “Summer 2012” to get people more built up to it. I researched into this as well and found that most of the movies are during the summer and I chose to use May as this is part of Spring instead of using the typical hot summer romance sector.
